10 Great Things to do in Lincoln This Weekend

Published on 2016-08-22 / By Washingborough Hall

As far as city breaks go, there can be few destinations in the UK that pack so much food, fun and culture into one modest area as Lincoln. With some of the nation's most remarkable history and a deluge of fantastic independent shops, bars and places to visit, is it any wonder the city is becoming one of the top staycation destinations in the UK? If our current special offers on short breaks were not reason enough to discover Lincoln, here are ten delightful ways to make your next short break an enjoyable one:

Magic Markets

While many English towns have a regular market, Lincoln has no fewer than six lively market days each month! These occasions are a great way to sample the best of local crafts and edibles, do some gift shopping or just browse to your heart’s content:
Lincoln Farmers Market takes place on the 3rd Saturday of each month on Castle Hill year round.
Lincoln Artists’ Market takes place on the 1st Saturday of each month from March to December on Steep Hill, while Lincoln’s Craft Market takes place on the first and third Saturday of each month at Cornhill.

Solve a Mystery

Do you love logic puzzles and mysteries? Fancy yourself as a bit of a super sleuth? If so, Lincoln’s own answer to the Panic Room style challenges might be just the ticket. We especially like the fact that Tension EG have mixed some local spice into their challenge too. Can you solve the mystery of the missing Magna Carta in just one hour? Great entertainment for families with older kids or group of friends. More info here: www.tensionexitgames.co.uk

Shop Independently

There are some truly stupendous boutique stores in Lincoln for anyone who like to keep their retail local and independent. Do keep a special lookout for crafts, vintage fashion and antiques, which are all well represented. Our main site has a shopping section with a rough guide and several useful starting points HERE

Take a Flight into History

As a region with such a rich history in aviation, Lincolnshire is not short on heritage attractions. RAF Scampton still operates as a military site and is just one of several visitor attractions near Lincoln to offer guided tours, authentic exhibits and real planes and vehicles on display. You will need to book in advance for RAF Scampton- but there are also several other sites open for day visitors (see our Aviation History Sites blog for more suggestions).
