Our Story

Our Past

Our enchanting manor house has a rich and full-bodied history, dating back to around 1730 when it was the private home of the Fairfax Family. It changed ownership many times over the next couple of centuries, being handed down through a combination of families and parish Reverends. Notable owners during this period included Sir William Amcotts-Ingilby, M.P. From one of the richest families in Lincolnshire, he was renowned throughout the land for his jaunty style, wild clothes and idiosyncratic green hat!

Intriguingly, it was as World War II was raging through Europe that ‘Washy Hall’ would change forever. The manor house became a welcoming home to weary airmen and, after the war ended, it opened as a nursing home. But this still wasn’t to be its final vocation, oh no! Somewhat surprisingly it was used as a nightclub for a few years before discovering its destiny as one of Lincoln’s best restaurants and (thankfully) a country house hotel.

Our Promise

When we took ownership of Washingborough Hall a few years ago, the hotel was a little run-down, quite rough around the edges, and a bit more shabby than chic. We’ve invested time, money and a lot of love, all to restore its long-lost elegance. Today, it’s so more than just a lovely place to rest your head; it’s a charming hotel with a gorgeous glow, and a warm heart. It’s like a hotel-hug.

Our promise to you is simple but meaningful: When you visit Washingborough Hall, whether it be for a short break, a special event or a scrumptious dinner, we promise that you’ll be well fed, well wined, and very well looked after.

The love, care and attention that we apply to everything we do will ensure that your visit will exceed all your expectations. For extra reassurance, you may like to take a look at what other guests say about us on TripAdvisor. We have over 1000 completely unbiased reviews (thank you!) and have also won some impressive awards.

Guest Reviews Fantastic Treat

The Washingborough was a fantastic treat and completely different to the regular chain hotels. This boasts antique furnishings, interesting paintings and quirky sitting areas. We just loved our stay and every single member of staff went out of their way to make it enjoyable. Big thanks to all.

Guest Reviews Really great one night stay at this unique country hotel

My husband & I recently stayed for one night at Washingborough Hall for dinner, bed & breakfast. We stayed in the Ingleby Suite - which is absolutely gorgeous room with lovely views across the front lawns of this hotel. The en suite bathroom is large and has a great roll top bath & walk in shower. Our evening meal was really tasty and used some local produce. Breakfast, again, was really plentiful and served in the cosy bar area as there weren't many guests staying. The staff are cour... Read more

Guest Reviews Best Hotel We've Ever Stayed In

My husband and I are lucky to have time away in beautiful places and I can honestly say Washingborough Hall is the best hotel we have ever stayed in! The staff are a pure delight, nothing is too much trouble and everything is done with such friendliness and style. The food is superb, we ate both evenings in the restaurant and enjoyed great service and a relaxing ambience. Our room was perfect, very clean and well appointed ,with a view over the garden. We enjoyed quiet undisturbed sleep, which I... Read more

I visited this fabulous hotel for my partners birthday. The staff was so welcoming and could not do enough for you. The rooms are stunning and the food was out of this world. I could not recommend a better place to stay. It should be a 5 star hotel.

Guest Reviews An Oasis of Calm

Just a really great place run by management with high standard who obviously create great morale amongst their staff to deliver a first class guest experience. Stylish, upmarket, traditional with a odern twist 'Washy' as it is affectionately called ticks all the boxes. Hats off to the brigade in the kitchen as we had a fantastic meal. Fine dining is often 'anything but', however, these guys really know their stuff and place emphasis on great local produce cooked to perfection. Super comfy rooms ... Read more

Guest Reviews Absolutely Super

We did a bargain break here which included 2 nights bed, breakfast and diner, as well as transport to, and a free entry into Lincoln Cathedral

Our room was absolutely super, as was the bathroom and the four poster bed.

Breakfast was excellent, as was diner each evening. Drinks were not expensive and the ambience of the hotel was lovely. The staff were very helpful. We would willingly stay again.

Guest Reviews Great Hotel!

The hotel is welcoming and relaxing with helpful staff both professional and friendly. My room had a very comfortable bed and a luxurious bathroom which was squeaky clean. Lunch and dinner were outstanding; a varied seasonal menu using locally sourced produce and vegetables cooked to perfection; desserts to die for and a great selection of cheeses. Breakfast for me included home made granola, fruit salad and pastries which were delicious.Great for those of us who skip the full English although i... Read more

Guest Reviews Charming In Every Way

A quite splendid stay and we could not have wished for more. Friendly and efficient staff, delightful surroundings and excellent bar and dining facilities. We are sorry that we do not have an excuse to return. We loved every aspect and it is but a short drive to Lincoln City and its magnificent Cathedral.

Lovely place to stay for a family reunion. Very comfortable, very good food and great staff. Very reasonably priced for the quality of the stay. Lovely grounds, a quiet location with a nice walk down by the river. Close to Lincoln and all its tourist attractions.
