10.1 Million Brits to Take a UK Breaks this Festive Season
A total of 10.1 million Brits plan to celebrate the festive season by taking an overnight trip in the UK, generating a potential £1.9bn spend for the economy.
This is according to results from VisitEngland’s latest Trip Tracker survey.
Not surprisingly, many people look set to spend time with friends and family this Christmas, with a total of 33.7 million Brits planning either a day trip or overnight stay to visit relatives over the festive period and new year.
The survey also revealed that people will be eager to have an action-packed break, with 18.1 million adults planning on some post-Christmas sales shopping, 12.1 million organising a trip to a Christmas market and 7.5 million saying they will be taking park in other festive activities such as ice skating, enjoying a pantomime or visiting Santa.
VisitEngland chief executive James Berresford said: “There is so much on offer in England, especially at this festive time of year so it is wonderful to see that so many people will be enjoying the season by taking a trip and exploring our fantastic destinations. The options are endless.”
Minister for Tourism Helen Grant said: “The Christmas holidays provide a great economic boost for domestic tourism with many people travelling across the country to see family and friends or visiting some of the wonderful attractions England has to offer.”
Just 4% (2 million) of Brits plan to travel abroad over the Christmas and New Year period.
